What you should know about the herring:
- improves concentration and performance
- supports and strengthens bone formation and metabolism
- promotes healthy skin and beautiful coat
- supports muscle development and vitality
- rich in vital omega-3 fatty acids
- rich in vitamin D and B12
The herring processed in ICEPAW Puppy Junior pure is also called "the silver of the seas" is rich in protein, fat and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. With a fat content of about 17%, herring is one of the fattiest fish. A large part of the fat content consists of the vital omega-3 fatty acids. With just under 2 g per 100 g, herring is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids. They have been shown to promote concentration, performance and muscle development. The vitamins D and B12 contained in herring support and strengthen the bone structure and vitality of your dog. Vitamin B12 also plays an important role in blood formation and for the nerves and brain. Herring is rich in vitamin A, which supports healthy skin and beautiful coat. The processed salmon and linseed oil as well as zinc and biotin additionally support your pet's skin & hair. Rosemary extracts, tocopherols, vitamins E and C, and selenium protect your dog's own cells and tissues. ICEPAW Puppy Junior pure is gluten-free. This makes it suitable for food-sensitive dogs with a tendency to food intolerances. ICEPAW Puppy Junior pure can also be used as an exclusion diet. In case of allergies and intolerances to corn, barley, lamb or beef, the recipe with sea fish (herring) as the sole animal protein source and highly digestible rice is an optimal choice.
Dry food made from fish
Fish has very high-quality, highly digestible muscle meat and, like meat, contains all the indispensable protein building blocks (amino acids). Fish contains hardly any indigestible components and is therefore very digestible. Due to the particularly delicate structure of fish and its low connective tissue content, it is broken down much more quickly in the stomach, making it easier to digest than meat and quickly supplying the body with important nutrients. Each type of fish has its own special characteristics, especially in terms of fat and vitamin content. Fatty fish such as the herring used in ICEPAW dry food, for example, are rich in vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids.
Fish as a source of vitamin D
Dogs cannot produce sufficient amounts of vitamin D themselves. For this reason alone, it is very important that dogs get vitamin D from their food. The fish varieties processed in ICEPAW, such as herring, salmon, mackerel, anchovy and sardine, contain particularly high amounts of vitamin D. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is mainly stored in the liver and fatty tissue. It plays a very important role in the regulation of bone metabolism. Vitamin D controls that calcium and phosphorus are absorbed and processed by the body as needed.
Fish as a supplier of omega-3 fatty acids
In addition to vitamin D, fatty fish such as herring in particular provide the valuable omega-3 fatty acids. As a rule of thumb, the more fatty a fish and the colder its habitat, the more omega-3 fatty acids it contains. Omega-3 fatty acids are so-called essential fatty acids. This means that they are vital for the organism, but the body cannot synthesize them itself from other nutrients - the dog must absorb the substances through food. A distinction is made between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The dog absorbs the omega-6 fatty acids in sufficient quantities via the meaty components. However, to ensure that the dog also receives enough omega-3 fatty acids, the diet should be supplemented with a high-quality fish oil, such as ICEPAW cod oil, a rather low-fat oil, or ICEPAW salmon oil, a high-fat oil containing the fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Very important to know is that the ratio of fatty acids among themselves must be optimal. The higher the proportion of omega-3 fatty acids and the lower the proportion of omega-6 fatty acids, the more optimal the oil. Thus, a ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids of 5:1 to a maximum of 10:1 should not be exceeded.
Fish as a source of iodine
Fish are a natural source of iodine. Marine fish have a significantly higher iodine content than seawater fish because they already consume iodine-rich algae through their diet. Iodine plays an important role in thyroid function and thus energy balance. The daily iodine requirement of an adult dog is about 15 µg per kg body weight. Puppies, young dogs, pregnant or lactating bitches require correspondingly more iodine. Fish rich in iodine include pollock, haddock and cod.
